Microsoft D365 F&O Consultant Churn

Microsoft D365 F&O Consultant Churn

April 13, 2026

Something is happening in the Microsoft Dynamics F&O market right now. Every business running an active implementation project needs to understand it. Consultant churn in the ERP consulting space is at levels I have not seen for quite some time. The volume of new hire announcements on LinkedIn has increased substantially. If you are running a D365 F&O implementation, this warrants your immediate attention.

Chapter 8 of my book, The 14 Deadly Sins of ERP Implementation, covers this situation in detail. It is titled Quality and Availability of the Software Vendor’s Consultants. The ERP consulting firm or Microsoft partner you select matters far less than the consultants assigned. What counts is the quality and continuity of those specific ERP consultants on your project. When those individuals move — and right now, they are moving — your risk exposure changes substantially. No amount of planning or budget adjustment fully compensates for that.

Here is the reality as it stands across the current market. If your experienced consultant has just moved to another service provider, your risk is real. Securing someone of equivalent calibre mid-project is not guaranteed. Institutional knowledge of your business operations and processes is rarely documented with sufficient fidelity. The decisions made across earlier project phases cannot be cleanly handed over. It walks out the door with the individual. Rebuilding that mid-project is significantly harder than most clients appreciate. It creates real exposure to data accuracy issues, missed business requirements, and change management breakdowns.

Perhaps you have already had doubts about your partner’s ERP consulting services. Now you are watching their team dissolve around you. Your implementation project has entered genuinely dangerous territory. The risks to your timeline, budget, and business case are not theoretical. They are immediate and compounding.

This is not about allocating blame. The ERP consulting market is moving and experienced professionals have options. This is a structural feature of the industry, not a failure of any individual vendor or partner. But your business needs, efficiency targets, and transformation objectives do not care about market dynamics. Your stakeholders do not either. They care about outcomes.
